Vv is for viking

In Ruma waru we are learning our letter sounds. Every day we practice a new sound. We looked at Vv for viking and proudly created a viking hat each. We then practice writing the letter.

What word do you know that either starts with v or has v inside it?

The Amazing Learners of Rūma Waru

We have been learning use the tools in Explain Everything (EE) to create a drawing of ourselves. But an AMAZING one!

In EE we took a selfie first using our camera. After discussing it with a friend, we chose anything that we would like to be and used the pen tool to draw it.

We’re proud of our drawings and the colours we used.

Something we found challenging deciding what amazing thing we wanted to be!

If you could be anything at all, what would you choose? Tell us in a comment below.

Lasso A Friend!

We are learning how to insert an image into EE and use the lasso and drawing tools.

Today in our Cybersmart  -Smart Learner iPad session we learned how to insert a photo into our Explain Everything (EE) project board. We also tried out the lasso and drawing tools.

We are going to be practicing these tools again next week when we create in the Explain Everything app. Something we found challenging was to remember switch back to the ‘hand’ tool if things went wrong!

How to Take Ka Pai Photos

We are learning how to use our iPad cameras.

Rūma Waru learned that there are two cameras on an iPad. One on the front, and one at the back!

Today in our Cybersmart session we learned how to take a ka pai photo:

We learned to make sure our picture is clear and to try to keep the iPad still when we take a photo so that it is not blurry!

Here are some other suggestions from another class about how to take a ka pai photo:

Do you have any other suggestions?

Kawa of Care – Looking After Our iPads!

We have been learning how to look after our iPads.

Today Rūma Waru talked about how they are going to carry out the Kawa of Care for their iPads. We watched a video that showed how another class looked after their iPads.

Then we checked we had picked up all the tips:

Rūma Waru suggested these tips:

  • Be careful with them and hug hold them when we move around.
  • Another way is to keep an eye on your iPads. Do not leave them lying around!
  • Stack iPads up only four or they might fall down!

We are looking forward to using our iPads to become smart and clever learners!

Can you guess what these Rūma Waru students are learning to do to look after their iPads?

We Remembering How to Look After Our iPads

We have been learning about how to hug hold our iPads.

This is a photo of all of Ruma Waru practicing holding our ‘pretend’ iPads!

The way we play the game is to follow the leader. When Whaea Colleen said ‘Freeze!’ we had to stop. Whaea Colleen checked to see if we were hug hold our iPads. When Whaea Colleen called out “The screen is lava!” we all had to sit down and fold our arms and not touch our screens.

We are proud of our class because we did a great job following instructions.

The trickiest part of the game was sitting down and trying not to touch our screens. Some of us found it hard to hug hold a whiteboard. We hope that hug holding our iPads will be easier! Because there are a lot of us in Ruma Waru and the room is quite small it was also hard trying to not touch people in front of us too!

Room 8 Fitness Circuit

Everyday, for the last couple of weeks, Room 8 students have run around a fitness circuit.  The circuit is fun and has different challenges, eg, using a skipping rope, jumping hurdles, weaving in and out of cones or running. The students set a challenge for themselves so that they do it according to their own ability. A challenge might be:-  to run half then walk half, to complete one lap without stopping or to do 2 laps or 3 laps , it is up to each person.

We have also make links to our maths learning with measurement. We have discovered that 100cm is equal to 1 metre. Then when setting up use the metre ruler to space out the hurdles and the cones.
